HyperDrop in your browser

Every HyperDrop server carries a web version at its address followed by /app. Nothing is installed, so it is the way in from a borrowed or public computer.

Contents

Open it

In a current browser, open your server's address with /app after it, such as https://share.example.com/app or https://yourname.hyperdrop.link/app. It is the address your share links start with. If a link you opened shows files. in front of the address, leave that part out.

The web version comes with HyperDrop Server 1.2.0 or newer. On an older server, update the server first.

With your password

Type your login and password, and the code from your authenticator app when your account has two-factor turned on. An administrator account without two-factor is asked to set it up before anything else, as in the apps.

With your phone

Your password is never typed on that computer. This needs the HyperDrop app on your phone, signed in to the same server for at least a day.

  1. On the sign-in page, choose Sign in with your phone. The browser shows a code, good once and for two minutes.
  2. Open HyperDrop on your phone and scan the code. The phone shows which browser is asking, its address and its network: approve only a sign-in you started yourself, on the computer in front of you.
  3. Type the number the browser shows into the phone, with your authenticator code if your account has one. The browser signs in.

Staying signed in

Every browser you are signed in to is listed among your signed-in devices on the web version's Account page, and you can sign it out from there.

On a shared or public computer

What it does

Share files, folders and notes, and folders already on the server; find, edit and delete your shares and download their files; Receive Inboxes; galleries; your password, two-factor and devices; and for administrators users, server settings, the address and server updates. Files upload as they are, without the apps' video re-encoding.

Not in a browser: the Finder and Explorer menus, hotkeys, screen captures and recordings, extensions, and Live Shares, which would stop when the tab closes. Those need a HyperDrop app.

For administrators

Turning it off

The web version is on by default. To turn it off, use Server, Web client in the web version, or the command line signed in as an administrator:

hyperdrop server web off

Turning it off signs out every browser at once, and /app says The administrator turned off the web version. hyperdrop server web on turns it back on, and hyperdrop server web status shows the switch and the installed version.

Updates

The server installs the web version itself within a minute of starting and then checks once a day, whether or not its own automatic updates are on, and on a Synology NAS too. It installs only versions signed by HyperDrop and made for its own server version, so after a server update the web version follows within minutes, at most a day.

"The web version isn't installed on this server yet"

The server has not downloaded the web version yet. It downloads it from this site within a minute of starting, so on a new or just-updated server try again shortly. If the message stays, the server cannot reach gethyperdrop.com: check its internet connection, or install the release by hand with hyperdrop server web install, with the archive and signature listed in the web version's release list. Until then, the HyperDrop apps work as usual.

"The web version is being updated"

The server was updated to a version the installed web version does not match. It fetches the matching one on its own; try again in a few minutes.
